India, 8th September 2025 — India’s R&B luminary, Mary Ann Alexander, whose recent collaboration with UK legend Craig David on the ‘Commitment’ remix captivated audiences worldwide, returns with yet another bold single.

‘Take’ unfolds as a luxuriant sonic tapestry, its genesis rooted in a deceptively unadorned percussion loop by Mumbai’s celebrated producer Kambli. The audacious, mischievously buoyant foundational beat becomes the crucible for the Kerala-born, Bengaluru-based artist’s poignant declaration of ambition, self-worth, and confidence. Winding guitar motifs and velvety harmonic textures marry poetic introspection, marking the apex of Mary Ann Alexander’s artistic evolution.
Mary Ann Alexander states, “’Take’ started with nothing but a percussion loop that had this irresistible, mischievous bounce. It made me feel like I was confidently entering a space I’d worked years to claim. The song became part celebration, part reminder of what it takes to reach your goals—it’s about knowing your worth, pursuing your desires relentlessly and fiercely protecting your energy.”

Since its launch, ‘Take’ has garnered fervent acclaim across premier editorial playlists: Spotify’s New Music Friday India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka; Apple Music’s New in Pop, New South Asian Flavours, Day One, and Brown Sugar; YouTube’s New Indian Pop and Queens of Indian Pop; and Tidal’s Pop&B and R&B: RISING—underscoring Mary Ann’s status as a global force in contemporary R&B.
Take’ is now available on all major streaming platforms.
About Mary Ann Alexander
Mary Ann Alexander’s odyssey in music unfurled amidst the verdant landscapes of Kerala, where, at the tender age of seven, she first ventured into the recording studio. Nurtured in a household steeped in creative pursuits, she absorbed the region’s lyrical heritage and acquired fluency in Malayalam and English—an asset that would lend her compositions both depth and universality. Though her parents initially hesitated to endorse a musical vocation, that very hesitation crystallized her determination, imbuing every note she sings with steely resolve and heartfelt sincerity.

The decision to relocate to Bengaluru to pursue a degree in Visual Communication marked a decisive chapter in Mary Ann’s evolution. Immersed in the city’s effervescent arts scene, she forged collaborations with like-minded producers and songwriters, unveiling original compositions that rapidly found favour on social media. This academic grounding, coupled with stints as a graphic designer and illustrator, continues to influence her visually striking music videos and cover art.
Still in college, she lent her voice to guitarist-producer Sanjeev T’s lo-fi project Future, on the track ‘Take My Life With You’—a session made surreal when Sid Sriram quietly tracked the second verse. Her second release was ‘Over the Ocean’ for the Malayalam film Kolambi, a 15-year-old demo unearthed by filmmaker T.K. Rajeev Kumar that showcased her early flair for cinematic balladry.
Mary Ann’s recorded oeuvre to date charts a trajectory of fearless experimentation and refined maturity. Her debut 2022- released single, ‘In My Zone’ with Mumbai-based producer Pranay Parti, highlighted her velvety vocal timbre and introspective lyricism. In 2024, she expanded her horizons with the audacious, swagger-filled ‘Bling Bling’, followed by two evocative film soundtracks: ‘Sthuthi’ for the Malayalam drama Bougainvillea and ‘Ulfat’ for the Hindi thriller CTRL. Adding to this impressive repertoire are standout singles like ‘The Lovey Dovey Song’ and ‘Round 2’, underscoring her growth as both a lyricist and composer.
Beyond her critically acclaimed solo work, she has proven herself a versatile collaborator, contributing to tracks like ‘Superhuman’ by Tarang Joseph (ft. Ranj), ‘Sit Back’ with the neo-hip-hop collective Till Apes, ‘10 kmph’ with Dot, and ‘You’re The Reason’ a shimmering house anthem produced in tandem with Nate08. These collaborations not only underscore her adaptability but also solidify her reputation as an artist unafraid to traverse musical boundaries.
Her artistry bridges the nostalgic warmth of early-2000s R&B with contemporary pop and hip-hop innovation, seamlessly shifting from hushed confessions to buoyant refrains. This tonal versatility has become her hallmark, inviting listeners into an intimate yet expansive sonic world.
Onstage, Mary Ann Alexander commands attention with an arresting blend of poise and raw emotive energy. Her performances at premier festivals—Magnetic Fields, Echoes of Earth and Vh1 Supersonic—have been lauded for their captivating intimacy, even before crowds numbering in the thousands. Endorsements from luminaries such as Sid Sriram, along with acclaim from Rolling Stone India as one of music’s defining voices of tomorrow, underscore her growing influence. Above all, Mary Ann’s journey embodies a singular credo: to choose courage over comfort, forging a path that resonates with every listener bold enough to follow their own.
