Brew a Change with Woolah—Where Every Sip Makes a Difference!

When did you start your journey as an entrepreneur?
I Started my journey in 2014 when I left my stable marketing job at Sennheiser to come to Sivasagar and make a difference in the tea industry. We all know the industry isn’t in the best shape, so I decided to work toward change. Of course, many found it hard to understand my decision, but my mind was made up! Honestly, the decision wasn’t the toughest part—walking this path has its own challenges, and I truly believe those challenges give meaning to life. And I am loving every moment of it!.

How does Woolah commitment to supporting organic farmers and empowering rural women contribute to the sustainability of the tea industry in India?

At Woolah, we believe that sustainability isn’t just about the environment. True sustainable development has three pillars: environmental, economic and social. By supporting organic farmers and empowering rural women, we are boosting local economies and strengthening communities. It’s about bringing all these elements together to create a thriving, sustainable tea industry in Assam!”

What are the potential health benefits of consuming Woolah’s bagless tea dips compared to traditional tea bags, considering the absence of microplastics and the use of whole leaves?

Green tea is marketed as a healthy beverage, and while tea bags are super convenient, they often contain tea dust—the leftover bits after selecting whole leaves. And as you can guess, this dust doesn’t offer the full, wholesome benefits or the delicate flavor of whole leaves. Fun fact: green tea is meant to have a mild, delicate taste, but using dust can make it bitter. When I found out that traditional tea bags can release tiny plastic particles into your cup, I knew we had to do something different. So, we created our bagless tea dip that:
• Keeps you (and the environment) plastic-free
• Uses 2 leaves and a bud—the gold standard of tea quality
• Delivers a non-bitter, pure tea experience
• Offers more nourishment per cup”

In what ways does Woolah’s packaging reflect its values of environmental sustainability, and how can other brands adopt similar practices?

To be honest, we haven’t completely cracked the sustainable packaging puzzle yet. Our current packaging is made of paper, aluminum and plant plastic layer. We’re actively exploring eco-friendly options and experimenting with recycled or biodegradable materials. Other brands can take a cue by committing to continuous innovation in packaging sustainability and reducing their overall environmental footprint.

How does the introduction of unique tea blends like Rare Green Tea + Spearmint and Rare Green Tea + Chamomile cater to specific wellness needs, such as PCOS care and stress relief?

It all starts with lifestyle changes. While medicine has its place, doctors often stress the importance of adopting healthier habits. With our unique blends—like Rare Green Tea + Spearmint for PCOS care and Rare Green Tea + Chamomile for stress relief—we’re giving people a natural boost toward a healthier lifestyle. Plus, our leaflets offer tips to help you embrace those healthy changes. When you combine our teas with a better lifestyle, many health issues become easier to manage.”

How does consumer education play in Woolah’s marketing strategy, especially regarding the transparency of ingredients and the avoidance of artificial additives?

Consumer education is at the heart of our marketing strategy. At Woolah, we believe that informed customers are empowered customers. We go into detail about everything—from our sourcing and brewing process to how we select every ingredient—so our audience knows exactly what’s going into their cup.

We avoid hiding behind legal fine print or asterisks. Instead, we choose to share our story and our values openly. We talk about why a healthy lifestyle matters and how our teas can be a part of that journey. By offering real, transparent insights and practical tips (like those on our leaflets), we not only build trust but also inspire people to make better choices. In essence, educating our customers is not just a side note—it’s a core part of who we are and how we connect with our community.”

Educating our customers about our tea quality, our unique brewing process and what sets us apart has been a game changer. We keep our communication raw and real, and it’s really resonated with people.

How does the inclusion of prebiotics in Woolah’s iced teas contribute to the broader conversation on gut health, and what are the potential long-term benefits of incorporating such functional beverages into daily diets?

We haven’t really started the gut health conversation yet—it’s more of an added bonus. Our main focus is tackling the issue of sugary, carbonated drinks. With India’s tropical climate, it’s no surprise that people crave a refreshing drink daily. That’s why our iced tea has only 0.5 grams of jaggery—20 to 50 times less than most alternatives—and absolutely no chemicals, offering a genuinely healthy summer refreshment.

What are the environmental and health implications of using natural ingredients like jaggery and avoiding artificial additives in beverages, and how does Woolah’s approach challenge or align with current food and beverage industry trends?

Refined sugar is produced by extracting juice from sugarcane and then processing it extensively: the juice is clarified using lime, evaporated to form a thick syrup, and then crystallized and centrifuged to separate the sugar from the molasses. This refining process strips away most of the natural minerals and leaves behind a highly processed sweetener. Jaggery, on the other hand, is made by boiling raw sugarcane juice in open pans until it thickens and then it’s poured into molds to cool and solidify.

Because jaggery isn’t subjected to the same level of processing, it retains natural molasses along with beneficial minerals and a richer flavor. Many brands are moving toward natural sweeteners as part of a clean food revolution, and for us, it’s about more than just a trend—it’s about aligning our products with our values of health and environmental sustainability.”

Talk with us about your Shark Tank experience?

Let me share my experience in the tank: I was super nervous and even forgot my pitch twice—haha! The Sharks were supportive and by the third attempt, I finally nailed it. Though the televised segment only showed a few minutes, behind the scenes the discussion went on for over an hour.

They were genuinely excited about our work, even though their main concerns were customer acquisition and scaling the business. Price point was not a big concern during the discussion though it got some attention in the edit.

Now that Aman is coming onboard, I am even more excited about the next chapter in Woolah’s story. It’s a journey we are all in together and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
