When did you start your journey as a chef?

I began my journey as a pastry chef 12 years ago. What started as a therapeutic hobby during a challenging personal phase gradually turned into a passion and then a profession. The turning point came when I got the opportunity to bake for Salman Khan’s 50th birthday. That moment gave me the confidence to pursue baking seriously, leading me to earn a professional degree in Baking & Confectionery from ITM/IHM and establish DC Designer Cakes.
How do you balance creativity and consistency while maintaining quality in every batch you bake?

For me, creativity is art — but consistency is discipline. While I love experimenting with designs and concepts, I strictly follow standardized recipes, precise measurements, and quality control practices learned during my professional training. Every batch is tested for texture, flavor balance, and finish. No matter how artistic a cake looks, taste and quality are non-negotiable. My clients trust me not just for design but for reliability.
What inspired you to start your journey as a home baker, and how has your philosophy evolved over time?

Initially, baking was my creative escape from the structured world of fashion design and homemaking. Encouragement from my husband played a major role in helping me see potential in my passion. Over time, my philosophy evolved from “baking beautiful cakes” to “creating memorable experiences.” After the pandemic led to the closure of my cake shop, I rebuilt myself as a home baker — stronger, more focused, and more purpose-driven. Today, I bake not just for celebrations, but to inspire women that reinvention is always possible.
What does receiving the Nari Ratna Award mean to you personally and professionally?

Receiving the Nari Ratna Award is deeply emotional for me. Personally, it validates my journey of resilience — from homemaker to award-winning pastry chef. Professionally, it strengthens my responsibility to mentor and uplift other aspiring women entrepreneurs. It reminds me that success is not just about achievements but about impact and inspiration.
Is creating different types of cakes a constant source of inspiration for you?

Absolutely. Every cake tells a story. Whether it’s a celebrity celebration, a brand collaboration, or a child’s birthday, each project challenges me creatively. Exploring textures, themes, flavors, and techniques keeps my passion alive. Innovation in baking is endless, and that constant evolution keeps me inspired every single day.
How do you translate creativity into edible art while maintaining flavor integrity? What inspires your baking style and artistic expression?

For me, design always complements flavor — never overpowers it. My fashion design background helps me visualize structure, color harmony, and detailing. However, I ensure that every decorative element enhances the overall taste experience. I draw inspiration from global trends, cultural celebrations, client stories and customisation required. My goal is to create cakes that look luxurious but taste comforting and memorable.
How does your favourite dessert reflect your personality, cultural influences, and culinary philosophy?

My favorite desserts are those that blend classic flavors with a modern twist — much like my own journey. I love combining traditional Indian influences with contemporary presentation styles. It reflects who I am: rooted in culture, yet constantly evolving. My culinary philosophy is simple — elegance, balance, and authenticity in every bite.
