When did Sushmita Roy journey started her Journey?

I was born in the same year when Sushmita Sen won India’s first Miss Universe crown and that’s how I got my name. When I turned 10 years old and first time saw the pageant on TV since then I knew that I want to be on that stage and represent my country.

I did my first pageant when I was 18. I have been in the pageant world since the last 12 years and have seen a lot of both success and failures..

What was the most challenging part of the competition for you?

The last time I competed in pageant was in 2019 so taking the decision to compete again was the most challenging one. But the dream of representing my country is bigger than the fear of failure and that’s what  kept me going…

Speaking of purpose, what key message did you want to convey during the competition?

My purpose throughout the competition has been to educate people especially the youth about health, hygiene and nutrition. Also speaking of my long journey with pageants I wanted to put across the message of never giving up on your dreams no matter how hard it gets.

And I look forward to continue with my purpose.

How do you plan to use your platform moving forward?

I aim to spread as much awareness as I can about the importance of hygiene and nutrition across different sections of the society.. I want to motivate more people to chase their dreams and not be afraid of failure because unless you try you never know how much capable you are of your achieving your dreams.

As the 3rd runner-up in Miss Universe, how do you perceive the role of beauty pageants in shaping societal values and addressing pressing global issues, and what impact do you hope to have through your platform?

Growing up, beauty pageants always had a huge impact on me and inspired to me a better version of myself. Every year , not only the winners but all the finalists have inspired me as I have seen that they belong to different professional and educational backgrounds and have already achieved so much.

And that’s how I aim to carry forward the legacy, to inspire people to go after their dreams, never give up and at the same time educate people to take care of their hygiene and nutrition as I believe if we can take of these two aspects we can lead a healthy future.

How do you believe the definition of beauty is evolving in contemporary society, and what role do you see Miss India Universe playing in promoting diverse representations of beauty? And also What Fashion Means to you?

The definition of beauty is Inclusivity and that’s the only one word I could think of right now. Being a part of Miss Universe India this year I have seen women of all backgrounds participating and we have also seen women of different age for example earlier only women of age 18-25 years could participate, but from this year onwards the Miss Universe India organization has allowed women of all age above 18 years to participate and that’s a very big step as I believe that beauty is not about a specific age group it’s how we embrace our age gracefully.

Inspiring people do not need any specific age. Also this year we saw the inclusion of trans women, and Indian women from around the world. That’s how diverse we are and that’s what the organization has proved that beauty is not limited to a few boundaries rather than celebrated the expansion of beauty. We have set an example of celebration of beauty in it’s true diverse form.

Fashion for me has always been about carrying my comfort in my own style.. It’s not only about what’s trending but how we can keep our personal style alive through our way of dressing up.
