Sanjay Singh elected as the new WFI President. He defeated Anita Sheoran, the CWG 2010 medalist.

It was the much-awaited election of the Wrestling Association of India. Much anticipated elections for the wrestling federation’s office bearers were held at Olympic Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.

Amid a charged atmosphere, Sanjay Singh, a staunch follower of former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He emerged triumphant, defeating his opponent Anita Sheoran, a 2010 Commonwealth Games medalist, by a considerable margin.

The surprising support from Sheoran further heightened the election. She received it from a group of wrestlers protesting against Brij Bhushan, who was embroiled in accusations of sexual assault and harassment involving female grapplers.

Despite these allegations, Sanjay secured an overwhelming victory, receiving 40 out of the 47 votes. At the same time, Sheoran managed to secure only seven. This decisive outcome solidifies Sanjay Singh’s position as the new vice president.
