The Musical Journey of Mayuri Saha: From Childhood Prodigy to National Recognition

Remarkably talented semi-classical artist Mayuri Saha has dazzled audiences with numerous captivating appearances on two Bengali reality shows: Zee Bangla Saregamapa (2022) and Star Jalsha Super Singer (2020).She was the First runner up of Star Jalsha Super Singer 2020. Recently Mayuri got nominated for Mirchi Music Awards 2024, in Rabindra sangeet category.  She sang various songs which touched people’s heart with different languages.

Harmonious Beginnings: Mayuri Intellectual and Musical Journey from Age 9

Mayuri started her musical journey at the age of 9, when she was in class 4. At the beginning she learnt music from her idols Smt. Chandana Chakroborthy and Pandit Ajay Chakroborthy. Later after 10 long years with them she started taking Indian Classical music Training from Deboshree Bhattacharya, And Rathijit Bhattacharya for the commercial grooming sessions.

Mayuri’s Battling Barriers to Success

As Mayuri  has faced quite a few challenges, being the  first generation of music leaner, dreaming about being a singer or an artist was the challenging job itself. But she has always been optimistic regarding  her career and passion for music. Mayuri’s family has been her constant support in the whole musical journey.  She is still an Indian classical student, she is still learning and also with that she has moved to Commercial stream, I,e the Bollywood Industry, in the different world of Reality shows. These were some of the stages where she has to groom herself a lot. Mayuri’s mentors has groomed her pretty well and helped her very much.

The approach & learning and interpreting a new piece of music

Every composition has its own significance. She supports & learning a lot. Mayuri shared her experience on teaching her students  she told that is also a learning procedure for her, because as she teaches she automatically gains knowledge, she connects to their psychological attributes. Mayuri also remember her childhood  times during teaching her students.

In  studio works, they get different and new songs and new compositions where they  are time bounded to prepare a song that is a big  challenge. But she also shared getting the help of music directors, sound recordist or other musical environment that becomes a little easy work. One’s skill is very important and that comes with learning Indian Classic Music.

The classical singing has changed over the years

The sound scape has changed, the fusion projects are getting popular with the Folk cultures. Somewhere now people are expecting Indian Classical to be delivered in a different sound scape or different format. She gave the example of Coke studio, where the various fusions are taking place, such as Indian Thumri which runs on different folk. There are various new progressives sound scapes  and the arrangements are emerging there. Indian Classical’s essence that can not be beaten.

That is the supreme thing. To understand the music one has to understand the Indian Classical music and go through it’s process and the lifestyle. All grooming parts are embedded in this form. The entire historical ‘guru-shisya parampara’ says the connection of Guru and Sishya is very significant.
