Born from a shared dream and a wedding-day spark, Joyspoon is the brainchild of high school sweethearts Yash and Vaishali. What started as a heartfelt gesture of gifting handcrafted mukhwas at their wedding soon blossomed into a full-fledged mission: to revive and reimagine the traditional Indian mouth freshener.
With roots in Vaishali’s family legacy and a modern, health-conscious twist, Joyspoon brings you vibrant, flavor-packed mukhwas crafted with care, creativity, and a commitment to quality. At Joyspoon, it’s never just about freshness—it’s about celebrating culture, connection, and joy in every spoonful.
Bridging Tradition and Innovation: Mukhwas has been a staple in Indian households for generations. How did you strike a balance between preserving traditional flavors and introducing innovative elements to appeal to a modern audience?
At JoySpoon, we see tradition as as our foundation to cherish and evolve. Mukhwas has been a comforting ritual in Indian homes for generations, but over time, it’s lost its charm—becoming overly sweet, packed with supari, and full of preservatives. We retain the authenticity of age-old recipes while rethinking formats, packaging, and flavor profiles to meet today’s lifestyle.

So, we reimagined it with thoughtful ingredients like neem patta, millets, seeds, and dry fruits—free from added white sugar, supari, or artificial flavors. With innovations like our Dhana Dal variants and sampler combos, we’re blending nostalgia with freshness, creating a mukhwas experience that feels both familiar and exciting for the modern, mindful consumer.
Market Positioning and Challenges: The mukhwas industry has remained largely unorganized. What were the key challenges in transforming a family tradition into a structured business model, and how did you differentiate Joyspoon from existing alternatives?
The biggest challenge was turning a generational habit into a structured, scalable brand. The mukhwas market in India is largely unorganized, dominated by unbranded, sugar-loaded, and preservative-heavy options sold loosely or in plastic pouches with little transparency. We had to build everything from the ground up — standardizing recipes, ensuring ingredient traceability, meeting FSSAI norms, and creating packaging that meets both retail and e-commerce standards.

What sets JoySpoon apart is our commitment to clean ingredients, consistent taste, and a design-forward identity that makes our mukhwas not just a product, but an experience. We’re positioning ourselves as India’s first modern mukhwas brand — one that taps into the D2C space, corporate gifting, HoReCa, and export markets — offering a fresh, functional alternative to what’s been ignored for far too long.
Consumer Awareness and Health Trends: With growing consumer interest in health-conscious snacking, how does Joyspoon educate its audience about the benefits of mukhwas beyond being a mouth freshener?
We see mukhwas as much more than a post-meal ritual — it’s India’s original functional snack, rooted in Ayurveda and everyday wellness. At JoySpoon, we actively educate our audience through storytelling on packaging, digital content, and consistent engagement. Our founders, along with our creative and active social media team, work closely to craft content that resonates with today’s health-conscious consumer — sharing the benefits of traditional ingredients like fennel, ajwain, flax seeds, and newer additions like millets and neem patta.

These aren’t just flavorful—they support digestion, detox, and oral freshness. In a market craving mindful snacking, we position mukhwas as a clean, sugar-free, and supari-free alternative that’s both nostalgic and functional. It’s a guilt-free daily mini-snack that promotes gut health, curbs cravings, and fits seamlessly into modern lifestyles.
Scaling and Sustainability: As you scale Joyspoon, how do you ensure consistency in quality and ethical sourcing of ingredients while maintaining affordability for your customers?
At JoySpoon, scaling doesn’t mean compromising — it means scaling up responsibility. From day one, we’ve built strong partnerships with ethical, verified suppliers who align with our clean-label philosophy. By sourcing in bulk and adopting semi-automated packaging, we’ve been able to streamline operations and keep costs in check without sacrificing quality.

Every batch undergoes rigorous in-house checks for freshness and consistency. As we grow, our vision is to build a fully transparent, vertically integrated supply chain that uplifts local farmers, supports women-led facilities, and ensures ingredient traceability — all while keeping our products affordable and accessible to a wide audience.
The Shark Tank Impact: Participating in Shark Tank India Season 4 must have been a game-changing experience. What were your biggest takeaways from the pitch process, and how has it influenced your growth strategy moving forward?
Shark Tank India gave us more than just national visibility — it was a turning point that challenged us to think sharper about scale, margins, and storytelling. The biggest takeaway? In a traditional and unorganised category like mukhwas, clarity of vision, founder conviction, and product integrity truly stand out. The feedback from sharks, especially Ritesh Agarwal and Peyush Bansal, validated our belief that mukhwas can evolve from a boring afterthought to a modern, functional, and snack-worthy product.

Since airing, we’ve seen a surge in D2C traffic, retail interest, and B2B inquiries — including hotels, gift curators, and international leads. It’s pushed us to accelerate our roadmap: expanding our SKU lineup, deepening digital + offline partnerships, and scaling our women-led operations. More than anything, Shark Tank reinforced that we’re not just building a brand — we’re redefining a category.
How does Joyspoon ensure that its Dhana Dal retains both its authentic traditional essence and its health benefits while meeting the evolving preferences of modern consumers?

We dry roast our coriander seeds the traditional way—without any preservatives, supari, or artificial flavors—preserving both taste and digestive benefits. What makes our Dhana Dal stand out is the clean labeling, resealable packs for on-the-go freshness, and innovative variants like minty and tangy twists. It’s a nostalgic flavor, reimagined to suit today’s conscious and curious snacker.
